The Belogradchik Rocks
The Belogradchik rocks are unique rock formations located in the western part of the Balkan mountain range. They covered an area that is 30 km. long and 15 km. wide. The rocks are located 1 hundred and 70 km. north-west from Sofia.
There are awesome conglomerates of sandstone and limestone with reddish, gray and yellow layers. The strange rock formations came into existence as a result of impactive natural elements – rain, wind and sun, over more than 2 hundred million years. Nature transforms the shapes of rocks into sculptures of mythical creatures and people, animals and birds.
