So today we were on our way to one of the villages in Bulgaria and as we drove along the road, we decided to stop and collect some spring water …..
As we arrived at the spring, we noticed that there were two lads and a small child next to the wall in front of the spring. They had created a small bonfire and were roasting sausages……..
We said hello to them as we got our large water bottle out of the car and went to fill it. One of the lads noticed how big our bottle was and quickly found a stick to prop the bottle up with under the flowing water for us, so that we wouldn’t have to stand and hold it whilst it filled.
Then they held out their plate with sausage pieces on it and invited us to take a piece and one of the lads cut the end of a small twig into a sharp point and handed it to us so we could pop the sausages onto it and roast them over the fire…..
It was very tasty and we chatted for a few minutes with the lads and played a little with the child and then, when the water bottle was full we left with a smile and a cheery goodbye all round.
- Now we could have simply filled the water bottle and said nothing to the lads and the little child who had decided to come out away from their home and have an impromptu bbq together
- They could have completely ignored us as we filled our water bottle
But instead we had a lovely exchange, shared some tasty sausage and some time with complete strangers… Now while to many this doesn’t sound like much, to us it was a little piece of magic in Bulgaria.
And of course if I had remembered to take my camera with me, I could have taken a proper picture of the fire and people, but I didn’t, so I popped over to Google maps street view to find the exact place instead …….
